At Astra Packaging, quality is not a final step — it is built into every stage of production. From the moment raw materials arrive to the final inspection before shipment, each paper box passes through a rigorous multi-stage quality control process. This is how we ensure that every folding carton, rigid box, and corrugated box we deliver meets the highest standards for print, structure, and durability.
Stage 1: Raw Material Inspection
Quality begins with what we put into production. Every incoming batch of paperboard, ink, and adhesive is inspected and recorded before it enters the workshop.
Paperboard and Ink Testing
- Grammage and thickness: Verified using a grammage cutter and caliper to ensure consistent board weight.
- Smoothness and brightness: Tested with a smoothness tester and whiteness meter to confirm print suitability.
- Stiffness: Measured with a stiffness tester to ensure the board can withstand converting and filling.
- Moisture content: Checked with a halogen moisture analyzer to prevent warping or print defects.
- Ink adhesion and color: Verified against approved standards before production begins.
Each batch is assigned a unique lot number for full traceability. If any issue arises later, we can trace it back to the exact raw material batch within minutes.
Stage 2: In-Process Quality Control
During printing, lamination, die-cutting, and gluing, our quality team monitors critical parameters in real time.
Color Consistency and Print Inspection
- Spectrophotometer-based L*a*b* control: Every print run is measured against the approved standard to keep color difference (ΔE) within tight tolerance.
- Visual inspection: Trained inspectors check for misregistration, ink spots, scratches, and other surface defects.
- Image comparison system: A high-resolution camera compares each printed sheet to a golden sample, flagging any deviation immediately.
- Bar code and QR code verification: Scanners confirm that all codes are readable and correctly placed.
Structural Checks
- Die-cutting accuracy: Checked against the approved dieline to ensure proper folding and assembly.
- Gluing strength: Tested to ensure the box holds together during filling and transport.
- Opening and closing force: Measured for tuck-end and magnetic closure boxes to guarantee a satisfying user experience.
Stage 3: Final Product Testing
Before any box leaves our factory, it must pass a series of physical and environmental tests.
Physical Performance Tests
- Tensile and tear strength: Ensures the box can withstand handling and stacking.
- Friction and abrasion resistance: Tests the surface against rubbing and scuffing.
- Vibration and drop tests: Simulates real-world shipping conditions to confirm product protection.
- Seal strength and leak tests: For boxes with windows or special coatings, we verify seal integrity.
Environmental and Durability Tests
- Heat and humidity resistance: Confirms the box maintains shape and print quality in different climates.
- Light fastness: A fade meter checks that colors do not fade under prolonged light exposure.
- Adhesive and coating stability: Ensures no delamination or blocking occurs over time.
Stage 4: Traceability and Documentation
Every box we produce comes with a complete quality record. Our digital management system logs raw material batches, process parameters, inspection results, and retained samples. This means:
- Each production run can be traced back to its raw material lot.
- Process parameters are locked after first approval and automatically applied to reorders.
- Retained samples from every batch are stored for cross-batch comparison.
- Test reports are available for every shipment.
This level of documentation is why brands across food, beauty, health, and pet industries trust us with their packaging. It is not just about making boxes — it is about delivering consistency, safety, and confidence, order after order.
